Our Year 13s are spending their last days in school before they leave next Friday, which will be an emotional day for students and staff, but also a day of great celebration for the whole school. We will begin with breakfast served by staff, followed by a special whole school awards assembly. Morning coffee and pastries will be served in the quad, weather permitting, and this will be followed by a feast of student talent consisting of a variety of performances, comedy sketches and musical entertainment. I look forward to joining the Year 13s at their Leavers' Ball at the Racecourse later that evening.

Some exciting news this week is that Jamie Stratford (Y11) has entered a 3 minute film "Sean" (made with a group of friends) into a competition run by Filmnation Shorts - based on Olympic values, it not only won Best Film of the Month, but was selected to be shown on all the big screens at Olympic sites around the UK during the Games. Jamie will attend a glittering final awards ceremony at the British Film Institute in July, where the overall winners will be announced. Congratulations to Jamie and well done.

I should mention that four students from Pate's will be competing in a team triathlon event to celebrate the arrival of the torch on Wednesday morning – Joe Gare, Jacob Pickering, Sophie Whitehead and Katie Jones will be swimming 200m, cycling 4,000m and running 2012m! I wish them the best of luck! We also have two students who will be carrying the torch on parts of its journey – Alex Chantler and Will Paulson - Pate's has certainly played its part in this historic event.

The Year 7-10 Solo Music Competition will take place on Wednesday 4th July – so plenty of time to practise – and the deadline for entries is Friday 15th June. There are 8 categories and each category has 3 grade levels. Please click here for full details of the competition and how to enter.

Once again the Music Department will be offering Music Theory lessons after school from September for Grades 1 through to 5.  These will cost £50 per term for 30 lessons.  Please click here for full details and reply slip - forms should be returned by half term please.

Congratulations to Josh Cottell (Y8) on winning the gold medal in the Under 16 jazz class at the Cheltenham Festival of Performing Arts. Good luck to all the many other performers who are taking part in the festival. Do let us know how you get on!

Congratulations also to the public speaking team of Luke Rollason, Elliot Gomm and Felix Torrance, who won the Business and Professional Women's Cup for Public Speaking at the Cheltenham Festival of Performing Arts.

Proofs of the Jubilee whole school photo have been sent home with students. Please place orders by half term (1st June) – spare order forms are available from the school office. If you do miss our deadline you will need to order direct from Tempest.

Please could I remind everyone that we have 2 INSET days after half term – Mon 11th June will be a home study day for students not taking exams and Thurs 12th July will be a home study day for students not taking part in House Drama rehearsals (all day). Students working from home should check the VLE for any work set. If it is not possible for your child to work from home on either of these days please email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.  so that provision can be made in school for them.

Yours sincerely
