Last Friday, eight members of the 6th Form Pate’s Amnesty Society visited the Amnesty International UK Human Rights Action Centre for their 2017 Youth Conference. They were given talks by members of the Amnesty International UK team and guest speaker Amal Azzudin (well known as one of the Glasgow Girls, who campaigned for better treatment of people seeking asylum in the UK), surrounding the subject of refugees and the Amnesty ‘I Welcome’ refugee campaign. The Pate’s students also took part in workshops addressing subjects such as campaigning creatively and effectively, campaigning with MPs and running Amnesty youth groups. It was a thoroughly inspiring trip and provided insight into the great work Amnesty do.
