After qualifying as the second place team in Gloucestershire after the County Tournament, Pate’s knew that the competition was going to be tough. The squad travelled down to Cambourne in Cornwall on Friday afternoon. The following day the squad stepped up to the level required and played excellent netball throughout the day, despite it being very cold and a bit wet at times.
The first game against King Edwards started off very close with Pate’s leading at half time, however the opposition came back a lot stronger in the second half and picked up balls from a few unforced errors, leaving the final score as 11-6 to King Edwards. The next two games seemed to go the same way for Pate’s, losing 9-5 to Truro College and 5-3 to Maynard.
Pate’s kept their determination and came back to beat New College Swindon 10-7 with a strong team effort. The next game was against Millfield, who went on to win the tournament. Pates played the best they could but unfortunately lost 14-5. With the final game against Canford, Pate’s gave all they could but lost 14-9. Pate’s had a great day of netball with the scores perhaps not reflecting how well they worked together with multiple turnovers within defence and midcourt and some excellent goals by the shooters. Congratulations in representing Gloucestershire in the Regional Finals.
