The U16’s county tournament, played at CLC , was a great success. We started the group stage by playing one of our toughest competitors- CLC. However, the whole team got off to a great start, managing to come away with a win of 8-3. Next, we played Kingshill and kept up the high standard of netball to achieve another decisive victory, this time 9-4. After Kingshill we played Ribston, a match which we had thought would not be too challenging. But this matched proved to be quite tough with some talented shooters from Ribston ensuring some great goals. In the second half, the team stepped up the standard to ensure a win and some great play from our defenders- Jemima Jones and Connie Trendle- saw us obtain a closer win of 7-5. The final match of the group stages saw us face Thomas Keble, and the team was able to practice some new skills we had been learning in lunchtimes at club whilst winning the game decidedly with a score of 12-1.
This meant we were through as the Winners of our group to face Farmors in the Semi Finals and one step closer to our goal- to qualify for regionals! The whole team was very tired due to a full-on set of group stage matches but the semi- final saw everybody have an amazing game, keeping focus to the last minute. The whole team (and Mrs Taylor!) definitely had their eyes set on a place at regionals! We dominated the play, winning the match with a great score of 7-1.
The final, however, was one match too many for us and saw the whole team exhausted. We lost out 3-12 to High School For Girls, who played some great netball and deserved the trophy.
The whole team is very happy to have ensured a place at regionals (after closely missing a spot in Year 9) and are incredibly excited to start this stage in the new year. All of us would like to give loads of thanks to Mrs Taylor for her dedication and support of the team and thanks also to Mrs Walker for taking and helping us on the day.
