Well done to U16 Girls' Basketball Team

Pate’s U16 Girls’ Basketball both went through to the county tournaments this week and represented Cheltenham against other areas from around Gloucestershire. The girls faced Dene Magna first and battled hard to win 14-10. Pate’s then faced Thomas Keble and settled into their rhythm winning 21-12 which got the girls to the final. The final meant meeting tough opposition in Wynstones. The girls fought hard but lost 32-12, however second in the county is good enough for the girls to progress and will now be in the knockout stage of regionals in the New Year. Super performance girls!

U14 District Basketball Championship

On Tuesday the Y9 boys retained the U14 District Basketball Championship for Pate's. The 15 man squad were slow to start the opening match as they found their feet in their first ever basketball match. They quickly discovered the patience and control it would take to win and showed some quality finishing to win the first match with a 20-0 win v Chosen Hill School. The second match was a much closer affair as new players also took some time to settle into the game. With some nice late scores, Pate's were eventually 6-2 victors v Bournside. By the second half of the final game, Pate's really showed the fluid and skilful play we knew we were capable of, winning 18-6 against Balcarras. Throughout the tournament Pate's showed signs of some real class as well as very impressive strength in depth. Pate's now go on to the county tournament as Cheltenham representatives. Good luck to them in this as well as the league campaign.

Cheltenham District Cross Country Championships

On Friday 13th November numerous Pate's athletes battled through the rain (and considerable mud) at the annual Cheltenham District Cross Country Championships at St. Edward's School.

They represented themselves and the school brilliantly, with many now selected to represent Cheltenham at the County Championships.

Highlights included the Junior girls team (Y8&9) and the Senior boys team (Y12&13) both winning their respective competitions.

In addition to the team competitions, Molly Powlesland, Joe Speak and Alex Chantler-Mayne all won their races!

Well done to all involved and best of luck for those competing in the next round.  IMG 5515 Medium

Year 7 rugby starts with a tournament win

The Year 7 A and B teams played in the Cheltenham District 10s tournament hosted by Balcarras this week. The Bs did exceptionally well against other schools A teams and enjoyed the experience and challenge. The A team progressed into the final against Bournside, when a close contest was won with a blindside try in the final minute of the game to secure a tournament victory. The future of Pate's rugby looks bright!

1st VII netball squad reach Regional Finals

Many congratulations to our 1st VII netball squad who made the final of the U19 County Tournament.

The squad started well and won all their group games comfortably, only conceding 4 goals. After winning their quarter final 15-1 they met an experienced and talented Chosen Hill team in the semi final and came back from 2-4 at half time to win 7-6. This set up a tough challenge in the final when they worked really hard but lost to an U19 Hartpury College team.

This means that Pate's, along with Hartpury will represent Gloucestershire in the Regional Round in Cornwall in January. Many congratulations and good luck!

1st XV triumph over Cheltenham College again

On Tuesday 29th September the 1st XV beat Cheltenham College 21-12 for the second year running. The match was played in glorious sun shine on College Lawn in front of a good crowd. The College dominated early possession but Pate’s defended passionately. The players rallied round each other and began to take control of the game with some strong running by forwards and backs. Tries were scored by forwards Elliot Gale and Seb Ellis and Jake Ritter’s kicking from the tee added the rest of the points.

Pate’s International Rowing Success

It has been a fantastic summer for Pate's rowers, past and present. After retaining the title she won with her crew at Henley last year, Flo Pickles (Y13) was selected to represent Great Britain in the u23 world championships, despite being just 18 years old! Flo and her crew finished a highly respectable 4th in the world in the Lightweight Women’s Quadruple Sculls. Flo leaves Pate's with our best wishes for the future as she moves on to Oxford to study medicine.

After her fantastic involvement with the Cambridge University Boat Race team, Pate's ex student Holly Hill was in the same Great Britain squad for the world u23 championship (Women's Fours Boat) and managed a fantastic bronze medal finish.
