Music Department ISM Gold Award
The Music Department has been awarded a gold award from the Incorporated Society of Musicians for their GCSE work. Last year over 20% of the cohort took GCSE music, making us one of only 87 schools in the country to have so many people studying music at GCSE. This includes the 4 specialist music schools as well as top independant schools which have a clear focus on music. Including these specialist schools we were ranked 19th in the country for the music results. It is wonderful to have such a flourishing Music Department and it reflects well that the value of studying the arts at GCSE is understood.

Music plays an important part in the life of the school. Whether in assembly, concerts, lessons, workshops or tours, there are many opportunities for making music. Well over half of the school plays at least one instrument, with large numbers of pupils taking part in choirs, orchestras and bands.
The excellence of the music department has been nationally recognised with a Business Education Award as well as Good Schools Guide awards for our exam results. Both the First Orchestra and Senior Jazz Band have reached the finals of the National Festival of Music for Youth, and chamber ensembles have reached the finals, and indeed won, the Pro Corda National Chamber Music for Schools Competition.
Whilst we strive for excellence, we achieve this through encouraging musicians of all levels to take part in something. Mass participation is strongly encouraged!
