The House Music competition held at the beginning of each year provides the opportunity for extensive student leadership. Each of the four houses has to produce an orchestra, a band, a boys choir and a girls choir. The Sixth Form leaders pick repertoire, arrange it, rehearse and direct each of the ensembles. It is a particularly valuable experience for A Level music students. With all of Year 7 and 12 participating, and more than half of the other year groups, it truly is a musical extravanganza!
In Years 7 and 8 the department runs a gifted and talented scheme for able musicians. Appropriate pupils are identified during the first term, and a series of workshops organised eg: chamber music day, Alexander Technique, masterclasses etc. Music staff will write to parents of the invited pupils by Christmas.

Rehearsals: Depend on the personnel!
This is a small jazz band formed with an eye to training up for the sixth form Dixie Band. Although nominally staff-led, the idea is for rehearsals to become more independent as they gain more experience. Entry is by invitation, but queries should be addressed to the music staff.
