Tewkesbury School

The U15A netball team had a tough match against Tewkesbury School, for their first round of the National Cup, on the 26th of September. With key players Ella Devlin and Sophie Vaughan ill and injured, we all knew this would be even tougher than it had been in previous years. We didn't start as strongly as we would of like to losing the first quarter 2-6. After identifying specific parts of our game to work on, everyone rose to the challenge and managed to pull back one goal. . We fought really hard in the third quarter and, against all the odds, gained a one goal lead, with brilliant linking play down the court by Inca Prince and Emma Hatherell. . We didn't falter in the fourth quarter, as we have done before, and kept our lead giving us a well earned but tight win at a final score of 15-14.

Chosen Hill School.

On Wednesday 16th September the U15 netball team played Chosen Hill School.
In the first quarter we weren't as focused as we should have been, letting them score two in a row. We all then rushed to try and get two of our own goals, resulting in some sloppy play down the centre court. Eventually, we slowed down our game and got into the swing of things with some great goals form Sophie Vaughan.
The second quarter we stepped onto the court focused and ready to go with some helpful advice from Mrs Mackenzie. Some great interceptions were made from our new and old defenders and more brilliant shooting from Emily Woodall and Sophie.
The rest of the game went fairly smoothly with an end result of 21-4, however we definitely have some improvements for next time.

U13 A - Netball at Chosen Hill

On Wednesday 5th march Pate’s played Chosen Hill at home. We lost the toss and they took first centre pass. We easily intercepted a lot of their passes. Our passing was direct and hard. Emily and Beth’s shooting was on top form. Everyone did really well on passing the ball in order down the court. We had been practicing freeing the space and it made a lot of difference. The final score was 24-3 to Pate’s Ella D was man of the match yet again. Thank you to Mrs Furze for umpiring. We are all looking forward to going on PGL on Friday.

U13 Netball vs Cleeve match report

On 5/2/14, Pate's U13 Netball team played Cleeve away. We started off well by passing across the court instead of channelling down the side. The shooters also made good use of space in the D and the defence held the shooters out of the D as much as possible. The wings did a good job of passing down the court and offering around the D.

The thing we need to work on is catching in a balanced position so the ball isn’t dropped, we don’t get pulled up on footwork and the outbound pass is accurate. The final score was 12-6 to Pate’s.

Man of the match was Lauren for her excellent interception of rebounds and defending.

Thanks to Mrs Taylor and Mrs Furze for umpiring the match.

U13 Netball A team vs U14 Cheltenham College

On Saturday 1st February, we played Cheltenham College U14 C team for the first half and the B team for the second half.

We continued our performance from the match on Monday and we got off to a quick solid start with solid, accurate passing and good interceptions.

The shooters (Beth T and Emily W) did a FAB job, considering the windy conditions. At half time we were well in the lead.

In the second half we played the U14 B team. Our defence pounced on their shooters and we got most rebounds. Our passing up the court followed the pattern and we kept their defence on their toes.

The final score added up from both our matches was 18-6 from both our matches. Ella H was the man of the match for her excellent use of space.

Thank you to Mrs Furze for umpiring the match and other people for organising.

U13 Netball vs Cotswold School

On Monday 27th January, Pate's played Cotswold School at home.

We lost the toss but started the game well and dominated the passing from the beginning with excellent interceptions.

Defence stopped most opportunities for scoring and when the ball was at our shooting end Beth and Emily scored some amazing goals.

The final score was 11-2 to Pate's. This win really boosted our confidence. Man of the match was the amazing Ella D for the 4th time in a row!!!

Thank you to Mrs Furze for umpiring the match.

Match report: U13 A Netball v Haberdashers

On Saturday 25th January, Pate's played Haberdashers at home. Mrs Furze inspired us in our training session and gave us about five strategies for the centre pass. Beth, Ella, Minnie and Emma all put these into action during the match and they were successful.

Defence-wise, we were solid and did a lot of interceptions and keeping the shooters out of the D. The attack got it up the court well, but accurate passing, catching and getting free can be worked on further.

The final score was 20-8 to Haberdashers but we all felt we were the better team and our confidence has grown. The player of the match was Ella D yet again (a hatrick!)

Thank you to Mrs Furze for umpiring the match.

Match report: Netball v Worcester

On 11th Jan 2014, Pate’s played Kings School away.

We lost the toss and they decided which way to shoot, so we had first centre pass. We started with some strong passing and no footwork. However their defence was solid and we found it quite difficult to score.

We tried different players in different positions to try and get the upper hand but the final score was 12-23 to Kings.

We need to restructure the team so everyone can play to their best potential, then settle down and practice working as a team.

Thanks to Mrs Taylor for umpiring. Man of the match was Ella D for her consistent effort throughout the match.

U15 Netball vs RGS Worcester

Our first match of the season was against RGS Worcester, a tough opposition. We battled hard with some excellent shots from Millie North and Rebecca Wright and strong defense with GK Em Paulson poking another player in the eye! We unfortunately lost 21-4, however we felt that the score was not a reflection of our hard work as we all played to the very best of our abilities.

Y10 District Softball Tournament

softballA group of six girls and six boys from Year 10 entered the district softball tournament having hardly ever played the game before.

Through a morning of coaching, the skills and tactics and were soon established. In the pool stages, Pate's beat Pitville (5-4) and Tewkesbury (10-4) to qualify for the final against last year’s winners, Chosen Hill.

The final was fiercely contested with a result of 3-3 at the end of normal time. A subsequent play-off was established, which resulted in a draw, followed by another and another. In the third play-off Pate's came out as worthy winners.

It was the Pate's usual determination and control under pressure (as well as a high skill level) which secured the well deserved victory.

The team will now go on to play the winners of the other districts in the county tournament next month. Good luck guys!
