Today is Leavers’ Day, a day of celebration for our Year 13s. They started the day with a full cooked breakfast and the whole school enjoyed their special awards assembly and citations. We will certainly miss them, but hope they will join us for our Y14 Christmas reunion, as is now tradition. It was lovely to welcome Y13 parents into school last night for farewell drinks and to thank them for their support. We will see Y13 back in school for their exams and of course results day in August.
Just to let you know that the lunch hour will change to 12:30 (not 1.35) from Monday, in order to accommodate external exams. So, lunchtime becomes 12:30-13:30 and period 4 becomes 13:30-14:30 i.e. lunchtime and period 4 swap, all other lessons remain the same. The new timings will be in place for the rest of the school year.
The House Drama competition will take place as usual the last week of term and House Drama T-Shirts are now available to order. They are a lovely memento of a fantastic event, as well as a great top to wear during rehearsals and before performances. This year, by popular demand, t-shirts will be available for those helping in Year 12. If you would like to place an order, please do so by selecting the House T Shirt item on your School Gateway account (here), including an indication of colour and size, or by filling in and returning the attached form (here), together with payment to the front office. (Please note due to changes to bank charges we are unable to accept cheques.) Those who would like to order more than 1 t-shirt will need to send in an order form with cash for the second order (apologies for the inconvenience). Orders should be placed by Tuesday 17th May. The Prince of Wales Stadium played host to a fantastic afternoon of English Schools Athletics Cup competition Monday after school. Each team was required to enter 14 (boys) or 12 (girls) athletes with each competitor accumulating as many points as they could across two events. Brilliant performances from the Junior Boys' and Junior Girls' teams saw both finish in 1st place. Both the Intermediate Boys' and Girls' team finished in 3rd position. We await results from other county rounds in the South West to find out if the points totals are enough for us to qualify for the Regional Rounds. There were many fantastic individual performances from the four teams, with the following achieving the top single score: Junior Boys - Daksh Bagi (25 points) for his time of 12.5s in the 100m. Junior Girls - Molly Powlesland (21 points) for her time of 5:29 in the 1500m. Inter Boys - George Williamson and Tim Andrew (both 20 points) for their time of 11.9 in the 100m. Inter Girls - Jade Gough (1500m) (photographed below) and Inca Padfield (800m), who both achieved 20 points for their times of 5:15 and 2:34 respectively.
South West Handball Tournament: The U15 boys represented Gloucestershire in Devon in the Regional Handball Championships. They won 2 out of the 3 group games but disappointingly missed out on the final on goal difference by 1. In the group stage Pate's beat the team who went into the final and won overall and have gone to the National Finals. So close!
Also in assembly this morning I was pleased to award our fantastic Y9 Health Ambassadors with their level 1 Award in Health Improvement from the Royal Society of Public Health. Having been selected by our sixth form Wellbeing Committee and undertaking 2 days of training in preparation for their role, they publicised their message to the students through their innovative noticeboard and assemblies, as well as to primary school families at our open mornings; and prepared healthy snacks and handed out free recipes at the spring fair. They have certainly been excellent ambassadors for the school and have done a brilliant job of promoting healthy living. Well done to Millie Davies, Willow Digweed, Din Gomes, Nida Jameel, Sarosh Khan, Eve Knowles-Jackson, Jasmine Meaden, Eva Macdonald, Hannah Simpkins and Sandra Vinod.
It just remains for me to wish senior students all the very best of luck in their exams which begin this week.
