Yet again the winning Pate's Grammar School Target 2.0 team of Sam Cole, Annabel Manley, Jack Sherer-Clark and Ollie Wallbridge have made history! They are the first ever students to be allowed to post to the Bank of England's esteemed Bank Underground Blog. Please find the article here entitled "If Pate’s Grammar School set UK Monetary Policy…". The editor of the Blog emailed to say "I just wanted to thank you the team for submitting your fascinating post. When we discussed it in the editorial board meeting I made the point that it was FAR better than anything I could have dreamt of writing at your age. Someone asked me how it stood relative to what I could do now, and I had to admit that the same was still true… So it really is impressive.” Congratulations and very well done to the team and to Katherine Fey for helping them to achieve this accolade.

OPRO Mouthguard fitting in September: The PE department would highly recommend all pupils who participate in rugby and hockey to protect themselves by wearing a mouthguard. Order mouthguards in advance & book your child's moulding appointment here: http://mouthguards.opro.com/custom/order)- the moulding will take place by OPRO staff in the Outdoor Education Building on Wednesday 7th September from lunchtime. (To see the full range of OPRO mouthguards please check out their website here.)
Boys’ Minors Athletics Championships: This week saw the annual Boys’ Minors Athletics Competition take place at a very wet Prince of Wales Stadium. This is the competition where Y7 and Y8 boys compete in the full range of events for their school’s year group team. The competition started brilliantly for Pate’s with many boys making it through their heats and into finals on the track. In the field, there was just as much success with lots of athletes picking up points in their events. Unfortunately, an unprecedented decision had to be taken to abandon the competition when the rain storm started and failed to relent. Luckily, the organisers decided that enough results had been recorded for decisions to be made as to the outcome of the competition. We are delighted that Pate’s boys were crowned champions in both the Y7 and Y8 competitions. Clearly this means that when the points were added together Pate’s retained the Boys’ Minors shield for the 16th year. Special mentions should go to Thomas Stevens (Y8 1500m “B”), Daksh Bagi (Y8 Long Jump) and Olly Hepburn (Y7 Javelin) who all won their events.
Many congratulations to all the Pate's athletes who competed at the County Athletic Championships on Saturday. There were some fantastic performances with many Pate's athletes now crowned County Champion. Possibly the most impressive individual performance was Mel Bird who not only won the shot and discus but broke a Competition Best Performance, throwing the discus over 35 metres! As a result of their performances, the following have been selected to represent Gloucestershire Athletics Team in Exeter this coming weekend. We wish them all the very best of luck:
County Girls: Jade Gough (IG 1500m), Alex Quinn-Savory (SG 400m), Bethan Moor (SG 3000m), Mel Bird (SG Shot and Discus) and Ellen Thrall (SG Hammer).
County Boys: Jack Musselwhite (JB 300m), Rory Cawkwell (IB 100m and 200m) and Jacob Pickering (SB 3000m).

Year 7 & 8 have finished their end of year exams, and Year 7 all went to Drayton Manor yesterday to celebrate. Similarly our Year 11s have finished their GCSEs and will celebrate with their Prom tonight at Hatherley Manor, followed by a trip to Thorpe Park next week. Well done to the students who have organised the Prom and thanks to Mandy Lane and Fiona Hutton-Potts for so generously supporting them. The Year 7 Normandy trip sets off this weekend and Y8 go on their summer camp. The end of exams heralds a well-earned relaxing wind-down to the summer term, with lots of fun classroom activities, sport, trips, events and shows for our students to look forward to and enjoy. Well done to everyone for giving their best in the exams and to parents for supporting them.
Finally, congratulations to Dan Gilchrist (Y12) on winning the MMA Hibbins Essay Competition (http://www.mma-online.org.uk/hibbins-essay-competition-2016/) . Dan fought off competition from all over the country with his Webern analysis. His winning essay will be published in the 'Ensemble' journal and he receives £200. Congratulations to him on this outstanding achievement.
I hope the rain holds off for the cricket next week and hope to see some of your there.
