This term has been very busy for our incredible Parents’ Association, who have raised THOUSANDS of pounds, covering almost every event (House Music, new parent socials, Diwali celebration, school show nights, cathedral concert, Quiz Night…). They will be offering refreshments at the German Christmas Market this weekend and serving mulled wine and mince pies at the carol service on Wednesday – as well as manning the Second-hand school uniform shop on Monday - and I would like to express my most sincere thanks to them. Not only are they raising huge amounts of money, on almost a weekly basis, but they bring with them a lovely camaraderie and our events would be sadly lacking without them. I know many parents are involved in various ways at different times, which makes me so proud – I can’t think of another school which can boast this calibre of parental support!

Quiz-goers had a very sociable and fun evening (with some friendly competition) last Friday. The PA incredibly raised over £1400 for the school. It was great to see so many students taking part. Thank you to the organisers and all those who went along, not forgetting Simon Lewis, the Quiz Master and his team. Particular thanks to Tom Frampton (Y13) who made sure the tech was set up and working.

We have some lovely photos from the 500th Birthday Concert at Gloucester Cathedral – check them out here.

Christmas Jumper Mufti - Thursday 15th December (pay £1 to wear Christmas-themed mufti, or £1.50 for non-themed clothes). Assembly was led this morning by our current Y13 Charity Committee – Robert Birch, Josh Cottell, Caitlin Devlin, Tom Jaggard, Sophie Letzer, Holly Teague and Sam Tilley – who will be running a Christmas themed charity day in aid of two children’s charities - Hearts That Hope and Winston’s Wish. On Thursday there will be deliveries of candy canes and Christmas cards around school, a cake and sweet sale in the refectory at break time and a full ticketed Christmas lunch for Y13 - remember to bring some change! There will also be a form room decorating competition for Y7 & Y8 all of next week which will be judged on the morning of the 15th. Hearts That Hope is a children’s home in South Africa that gives underprivileged children a place to safe place to live and not only meets their basic needs of food, shelter and clothing but gets them involved in the community and into schools. Winston’s Wish is a local charity that helps bereaved children and their families. Thank you in advance for your support.

Candlelit Carol Service – Wed 14th December @ 7pm at Christ Church: A perfect start to the Christmas celebrations, do join us in beautiful Christ Church (Malvern Way) to hear our singers and musicians in their element and join us for a glass of mulled wine and a mince pie, compliments of the Parents’ Association.

Our Y12s are busily seeking work experience opportunities for the week 20-24th February. If any parents are able to offer placements at their place of work that would be gratefully received. Our students have a wide range of interests and the work experience week is usually of benefit to both students and employers who are all but universally full of praise for the commitment and enthusiasm the Y12s bring to their time with them. Any offers of help should be emailed to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Thank you!

National Enterprise Challenge: During Flexible Learning Day the Y9s took part in a National Competition to find Britain's best young entrepreneurs. It is the largest competition in the country and the task was set by Theo Paphitis. The students had to design an App for Rymans based on a clear understanding of their chosen target market, they then had to consider the marketing mix that they would use for their app, including designing a poster, logo and a YouTube advert. Working in teams of six, the students were faced with the challenges of team work in groups that they weren't used to, as well as considerable time pressures. All groups created really innovative apps and there were some wonderful performances in the final stages as they showed us their adverts. The winning team were chosen for their great pitching and presentation style, but also for their really useful app, Minerva. Minerva aims to provide both revision and study support for students but with a stress-relieving element. In the app students can practice exam questions, revise using flash cards and share ideas and help each other using a social network feature, but added to this the app would ensure that students took breaks from work, rewarding them with mini-games and advice on stress relief every 45 minutes. Well done to: Charlotte Carter, Ryan Eccles, Isaac Fee, Emilia Miller, Aayush Mohta and Matthew Robyns- Landricombe. They will be presenting their ideas at a gala event this summer to Theo Paphitis himself!

Christmas competitions...

There is still time for students to make their Christmas cards this weekend for entry into the Christmas card competition (deadline is Monday). Entries from any age welcome. There is a collection box in Reception and the cards will be sold for charity at the Carol Concert on Wednesday.

Poetry competition run by the LGBT+ society! Open to all years, all styles and lengths of poetry are fine. The theme is Love and Acceptance, some prompts can include writing about family & friends and what change YOU want to see in the world. Entries are to be emailed This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. by the end of the term. Izzy, Tyler and the LGBT+ Society look forward to reading the entries – there will be EDIBLE PRIZES FOR THE BEST 3 POEMS!

I hope lots of people can make the German Christmas Market this weekend (Saturday 11am until 1pm). Please join us for lots of lovely Christmassy stalls, refreshments, fun and games and the world's supply of chocolate and cake! There are also some seats available to watch our Y12 perform ‘Blackout’ this evening in PAB (7.30-8.30pm) – free entry to enjoy yet more outstanding variety from Pate’s Drama students.

The Christmas holidays are almost here and so is House Dance - as I write there are all manner of dance troupes and teams of hard-pressed choreographers lurking around every corner working on their routines – I can’t wait!  Just a reminder that school finishes at 1pm on the last day of term.

Yours sincerely
