You may have seen the article in today’s Echo about the latest government school funding proposal, which will mean, if it goes ahead, that Gloucestershire schools (already under-funded) will receive even less funding. Dwindling budgets mean that schools are having to make painful choices in order to cut costs, and the education and wellbeing of students will suffer as a consequence. I will continue, through my work with The Grammar School Head’s Association, to bring pressure to bear on ministers and backbenchers to re-think this proposal. As I have said before, we will do all we can not to have to implement cuts and I must thank parents - your generosity and support is crucial if we are to preserve our values and all that is unique about Pate’s.
Assembly was led this morning by students sharing their experience of visiting China in October half term, as part of the Hailiang cultural exchange. We are hoping to run the exchange again in October 2017 – please click here for full details. The exchange is open to students currently in Years 10-12 (register your interest by Tuesday). My thanks to Miss Dodds and Mrs Herbert for accompanying them on their adventure.
2nd hand school uniform sale – Friday 3rd February 3-3.45pm: For all those in need of items of school uniform, the PA's well-stocked Uniform Shop will be open next Friday, February 3rd, from 3pm for 45 mins. Just arrive at the main reception and you will be directed from there.
Do you have any outgrown uniform or sports kit? If you do have any outgrown uniform or kit (and also ski clothing) to donate, please bring it in to school as soon as possible so it can find a good home. Thank you.
Sainsbury’s Active Kids Vouchers: this great voucher scheme is running once again in Sainsbury’s stores. Please could parents collect vouchers when they shop and send them in to school – the more vouchers we collect, the more free sports equipment we can order from the scheme! This is a valuable initiative and we are hoping lots of parents will support it. Thank you.
Could ALL students who have a Pate’s team shirt, dress or warm up top please return it to the PE office. There are many still outstanding from last term, so if parents could support us in this we would be very grateful. Thank you.

Following Junaid Hameed’s success in winning ‘Best Speaker' at the national final of the English Speaking Union's Public Speaking for Schools competition, he was invited to deliver the winning speech at their Annual General Meeting, which was held in December at their headquarters in London. Congratulations and well done to him – and what a great photo!
Finally I must say thank you to all the staff and sixth formers who helped at our Sixth Form Open Evening last Tuesday. It was a great success and I am very proud of our students – they were so impressive and spoke openly to visitors about the school and how it feels to be a Pate’s student. Thanks to parents for your support on the evening too. By the way, please remember to pick up your 'Lawless' DVDs - thanks and congratulations to Tristan Sharman (Y11) for making such an outstanding job of them!
