Isaac Fee (9B) played the piano beautifully to a very appreciative audience this morning in assembly. It takes courage and composure to be able to perform to over 1,000 of your peers and it is a great feat for any student to contemplate, so thank you and well done to Isaac, who really set the bar for the rest of the day.  It was standing room only at Wednesday's Choral Concert at All Saints Church and the performances were stunning.  Congratulations to the students, parents and staff involved and huge thanks to our Director of Music, Ellie Lane.  Thanks also to the army of Parents' Association helpers who sold £450 of tea and homebaked cake throughout the rehearsals and performance!

The CCF annual inspection and Year 8 taster session: The CCF annual inspection will be held on Thursday 6 April @ 12:30 (this is a change from the previously advertised time of 10:30). Parents and guardians are invited to attend and observe the Inspection and prize giving at 12:30 at the tennis courts. This is an opportunity for families to observe the training and activities that take place at Pate’s CCF. Year 8 students will take part in training during the afternoon to experience CCF activities prior to taking a decision on joining the CCF in Year 9 – all are welcome to watch. Refreshments will be provided. Further details can be found on the website (here).

Can you help us to find a marquee? The PE department are looking for a marquee to support this year’s Cricket Week, commencing on 12th June. If you know where we could borrow such an item, please could you get in touch with This email address is being protected from spambots. Good news: Sriram Iyer (9Y) has won this year's Famelab Academy competition, beating finalists from 12 other schools at EDF yesterday. His three minute presentation on 'Dreams' impressed a distinguished panel of judges with his content, clarity and charisma. Cash prizes are awarded both to Sriram and to the school. Over 1500 Y9 pupils in Gloucestershire took part this year so his is an amazing achievement – congratulations and very well done to Sriram.

Pate’s U15 Netball Squad County Champions! Congratulations to the squad who came out top at the end of the County netball tournament last weekend. The tournament was utterly gripping and particularly thrilling for Caroline Mackenzie, on her final tournament coaching the U15s after many years at Pate’s. I thought it would be fitting to include her final match report in today’s message: “This County tournament for U15 teams was divided into two sections, each team playing 5 matches of 8 minutes each way. Pate's had a difficult start playing a strong High School side. It was a fantastic match with High School just stealing the victory 7-6. The next game was a very tentative win v CLC by one goal despite Pate's having most of the possession. Good wins v Cleeve (13-3), KLB (9-4), and Chosen Hill (13-1) followed, despite Pate’s not always playing their best netball. This placed the U15’s 2nd in the section behind High School. It was great to get to the finals and even better when the team recaptured their best netball against Ribston in the semi's, winning convincingly 7-1 and then a re-match with High School in the final! This time Pate's made the most of their chances in a tense match to win 5-3 and take the May Dent trophy! Well done to the whole squad - County Champions!! ALICE COOPER, HELENA COX, MADDIE DALGLEISH, JEMIMA JONES, T GOWRI SHANKAR, IZZY OSUDE, MADDY ROPER, ANNIE SCOTT and CONNIE TRENDLE. In what will be my final year coaching U15’s at Pate’s I wanted to say how very proud I am of the performance and achievements of the four U15 netball teams I have coached since retiring full time teaching at Pate’s. Thank you all the girl’s in those four years for some very rewarding and fun experiences. In particular, to the girls this year for making it 3 May Dent trophies in a row!! I hope to see you all playing netball for the years to come!” Caroline Mackenzie

U13 District Netball Champions: Congratulations to our U13 Netball District Champions! After an unbeaten afternoon at CLC the girls won their group, and the semi-final and finished in the final with a 9-3 win over Chosen Hill.  The U13 District champions are: Maryam Boulkenafet, Phoebe Bradford, Sophie Casey, Verity Kohr, Naomi Layzell, Anna Lincoln, Sophie O'Riordan, Scarlett Oram, Chandini Rathnam and Rachel Smith (C).

Hana Kapadia Copy

Former Pate's Grammar School Student Shortlisted for £5,000 National Legal Award: Congratulations to ex-Pate’s student Hana Kapadia (formally of Hesters Way, how studying at University of Law in Bristol) who is a finalist in the nationwide Future Legal Mind Award and is in line for a potential £5,000 prize and a work placement at a prestigious law firm (Simpson Millar) after being whittled down from entries all over the country. Her essay on the UK’s civil justice system impressed industry judges, in response to the question “If eBay can resolve 60 million disputes each year, why does the UK civil justice system need lawyers?” Hana has developed an interest in using technology to improve access to justice, and is actively looking for pro bono activities to help vulnerable members of society, having already volunteered for the National Centre for Domestic Violence and Citizen’s Advice. Congratulations to Hana on her very exciting news and future career. If you would like to know more about the award and the finalists please follow this link.
