Today was Leavers’ Day, a day of celebration and contemplation for our Year 13s. They started the day with a full cooked breakfast served to them by staff, and the whole school enjoyed their special awards assembly and citations. We will certainly miss them, but hope they will join us for our Y14 Christmas reunion, as is now tradition. It was lovely to welcome Y13 parents into school last night for farewell drinks, and for staff and students to formally thank them for their support. We will see Y13 back in school for their exams and of course results day in August.

Just to let you know that, from Monday and until the end of term, lunchtime will change to 12:35-13:35, in order to accommodate external exams. So, period 4 becomes 13:35-14:35 i.e. lunchtime and period 4 swap, all other lessons remain the same.

On Wednesday, Pate's welcomed the local Liberal Democrat candidate for Cheltenham - Martin Horwood - for a fascinating Question and Answer session for sixth formers. Martin outlined the current Lib Dem policies for the election on June 8th and provided an excellent opportunity for students to ask probing questions about modern politics and find out his views on some controversial topics affecting young people today. There was a large turnout amongst students for Martin’s visit we are extremely grateful to Martin for making room in his busy schedule to come and talk to them.  Also, on Thursday, we were delighted to welcome Mike Farmer and Julie Farmer from the cross party alliance, Cheltenham for Europe, who gave a lunchtime seminar to sixth form students. The historical significance of European alliances, history of the EU and the challenges posed by Brexit on UK politics, were discussed. Students had the opportunity to ask a range of questions which included: so called 'Henry VIII powers', the impact of Brexit on legislation, and the forthcoming election on June 8th. We'd like to thank Mike and Julie for an informative and interesting talk.

Edward Derbyshire invites you to an evening of music and drama on Friday 26th May @ 7pm in the hall. “With the sun shining, and as we say goodbye to our Year 13s, I invite you all to a light-hearted evening’s entertainment, to celebrate what we all do so well as a community of staff and students and of the friendships and happy moments we share here at this incredible school. This will be a light-hearted evening’s entertainment - I shall be playing a selection of my favourite piano pieces, and introducing pieces from my favourite playwright. There will be refreshments throughout the evening, and participation from some of the Theatre Studies students, who will perform short monologues and duologues. Tickets cost £10 and are available on our website (here) – all proceeds in aid of Arthritis Research and to Making £nds Meet. I do hope you will be able to join us.” Edward Derbyshire, Head of Drama.
