It is Pate’s Cricket Week this week and I am looking forward to Monday’s match - Headmaster’s XI vs ex-Students from 2.15pm - as well as MCC vs Pate’s match on Thursday from 11.30am. Please follow this clink to see the full programme of events – everyone is welcome to drop onto the back field to watch some cricket. My thanks to Brian Hamilton (parent) for the loan of the cricket marquee.
Last week our Science Faculty hosted the whole of Years 3,4,5 and 6 from Rowanfield Primary School, for two days of exciting hands-on Biology, Chemistry and Physics. The children had a great time and I am sure the excitement of those multi-coloured flames will live long in the memory! My thanks to Geoff Worth and all of our Science teachers for organising this really valuable event on the fringes of Cheltenham Science week.
Year 9s Boys fly out the blocks to win Cheltenham Championships! It was a fantastic result for Pate's Y9 boys at the Cheltenham District Y9 Championships on Wednesday night at the Prince of Wales Stadium. The boys won the competition, which included teams from all across the Cheltenham District area, with 65 points. Despite some fierce competition, this group have now won their age group events for the last three years. From such a talented group, Oli Keitley was the most outstanding. The competition allows athletes to enter into three events but it doesn't expect victory in all three! Well done Oli, a triple champion (Long Jump, Triple Jump and 300m). It was a much tougher day for the girls, who competed admirably. The stand out performance celebrated by the girls was Scarlett Knight who won the 800m B Final. Congratulations and very well done to everyone!
English Schools Athletics Cup Regional Round: After the success of the County Round of the English Schools Athletics Cup competition, all four teams from Pate's headed to Exeter for the Regional Rounds. We were the only school apart from Millfield (often recognised as the best sporting school in the world!) from the South West to have all four teams in the regional rounds. As if this achievement wasn't enough, we came away with some of best results in memory. The day provided the highest level of competition some of our athletes will compete at, with top sporting schools from across the South West of England - many schools having huge number of students to pick from! The junior girls' team finished in 2nd with Naomi Layzell being the top scorer with 41 individual points. The intermediate girls' team were pushed into 4th with Inca Padfield and Piper Holmes both picking up 38 individual point totals. It was a fantastic day for the boys' teams with both the intermediate boys' beating all the other teams in their group to win their competitions. Although the junior boys were also announced as winners on the night, a further interrogation of the points put them into second. Oil Hepburn racked up 41 individual points for the juniors with Babajide Popoola gaining 40 points for the intermediate team. Well done to all involved!

We have a number of small, valuable items in Lost Property – including jewellery, watches, earphones, keys, memory sticks etc – and many pairs of glasses/glasses cases. These will be on display in main reception during the day – please encourage students to come and have a look, it may be that we can reunite a large proportion of items with their owners. Here is a small selection:
Congratulations to Harrison Ottley-Woodd (Y12), who won the South West Schools Golf Championship last week. He shot an impressive 6 under par for round 1 and 3 over par round 2, giving him a winning score of -3 Total for both rounds. Harrison will now be representing Pate’s at the English Schools' National Finals Championships later this month at The Kendleshire Golf Club.
