It has been a privilege welcoming the students for the start of term, particularly our new students, who have been getting to know each other as part of a fun programme of induction activities. In our first assembly of the year we celebrated the school’s outstanding GCSE and A Level exam results and also talked to students about the latest building improvements which were made over the summer, thanks largely to our successful grant for new windows along the back of school.  In today’s whole school assembly we showed a film we made at the end of last term, in which students talk about how they feel the school meets their individual needs. Based on these interviews with students and staff, we have identified three key features which interviewees tell us they most value about Pate’s. These are: ‘Embracing Challenge’, ‘Supporting Each Other’, and ‘Shaping the Future’, and over the coming months we will be exploring new and innovative ways to do more of the same, even better. Pate’s is an ‘Outstanding’ school in every respect, but I believe that, by collaborating and sharing ideas, we can take it beyond outstanding. I would welcome feedback from parents on this subject – please email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. I would like to welcome all new Pate’s families and very much look forward to working alongside you in the year ahead.

I would like to formally welcome and thank our House Sponsors for this academic year. We hugely grateful for the continued support from Montpellier Lodge and Harrison Clark Rickerbys and welcome on-board Zoom, Richmond Villages and Hazlewoods. Their support enables our fabulous house competitions to continue.

FINAL Its a revolution

Pate’s House Music 2017 tickets are now on sale for performances on Wed 27th September - matinée at 2pm and evening performance at 7pm; and Thursday 28th September at 7pm (with adjudication). The theme this year is ‘Revolution’ and there will be the usual boys and girls massed choirs, orchestra and band competitions and sell-out audiences. Please do, where possible, consider the matinée performance, especially if you are buying more than 2 tickets – it is ideal for grandparents and younger families; there is a lovely atmosphere and it is every bit as good as the evening performances, just a less busy, more relaxing experience! There are record numbers of students taking part this year and tickets will sell out very quickly, especially for the evening performances. Your PA will be running their fabulous bar as usual – show tickets cost £8 (adults) £3 (students) and are available on the school website (here).

Cory-Band instruments held high Copy

We are privileged to have the world-famous Cory Band (est. c130 years) performing at Pate’s on Sunday 8 October 3-5.30pm. Tickets cost £10 – or £15 to sit on the balcony – and are available to buy on our website (here). To see The Cory Band perform live is honestly breath-taking, so don’t miss out! Please do spread the word (this event is open to the general public). This band currently holds every single cup in the band world and they will be performing on a specially built-out stage for maximum effect! As well as performing the concert, they will be working with Gloucestershire young musicians during the day, who will then have the incredible opportunity of accompanying the Cory Band on stage for one of their pieces. This event is open to the wider community and there will be a bar serving drinks and snacks. Please do join us for an unforgettably stirring experience. To read more about the band and visit their website and Youtube Channel please follow this link.

DIWALI 2017: Time flies very quickly and we are entering into the third year of Diwali celebrations at Pate’s. It’s that time of the year to call for entries for the Diwali show. If you have been involved in previous years you will know what a wonderful celebration of Indian dance, food and culture this is. It is something we are very proud of at Pate’s and it would not be possible without the help of Thrinethra Gowri Shankar (Y11) and her family. We would like as many people as possible to be involved, as follows:

We would like following information of students who would like to perform dances:

Individual / Group Name:
Item: Indian Dance / Musical Instruments/Music
Music associated with the item:
Participants' name:
We would like the following information if you would like to help compere the show:
We are planning to include Indian Folk dance for Mums / Dads and if any of the parents would like to take part, please send your interest to the above email address. The practise sessions will be organised during school lunch times or in the evenings. We are also planning to have a group song while lighting the candles at the very beginning of the show. It is a repetition of the verses and maximum of 5 minutes. If you are interested in singing please send your details. Again the practice sessions will be organised during school lunch times or in the evenings. You will get a recorded version to practice at leisure. We are looking for at least 20 – 25 students.
Please send us your details AS SOON AS POSSIBLE to Thrinethra Gowri Shankar, Year 11 - This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. If you need any more information, please contact Thrinethra. We are really excited about this year’s show as so many new things will be included and the planning is well underway.

House Drama DVDs available: Pre-ordered House Drama DVDs are now available to collect from Reception – if you would like to place a last-minute order please email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Most DVDs have been pre-paid on School Gateway, but just a reminder that any extras which have been ordered by email will need to be paid for on collection (£10). My thanks to Tristan Sharman (Y12) who filmed all three shows and spent many hours editing over the summer to produce the film. All proceeds will be reinvested in our tech and media crew, which is great news for our student team and our future productions.
House Drama Photos available: we have some fabulous photos of House Drama – please follow this link to check them out. We are able to send you electronic versions of the images for a small admin charge (details in the link).

CCF Update: Students starting in Year 9 are invited to join CCF and begin training in September 2017. We have migrated to an online joining form which can be found on the website at The latest newsletter can be found at

We are always seeking to recruit new volunteers to assist with running the CCF: parents or teachers who have an interest in military matters or have served in the military who would like to assist are invited to get in touch. Our last recruitment drive through the parent community was extremely successful and we now have one of the most highly qualified CCF instructor group in the region. Paid training days are available for supporting events and it is an ideal opportunity to attain new skills and qualifications. There is no minimum commitment required….just give what you can. Higher staff numbers means a higher chance of us being able to offer varied and exciting events to the cadets. If interested please contact the Contingent Commander, Major Cameron Mackay at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
