It is a great pleasure to welcome you and your sons and daughters back to a new school year. In the first assembly of the year I encouraged the students to challenge us, as well as themselves, and not to be afraid to approach things differently, ask questions and think outside the box. It is particularly exciting to welcome all our new students, though I know it won’t be long before they no longer consider themselves ‘new’. Induction activities for Year 7 and Year 12 will be taking place over the next few days, with a great variety of fun and games organised to help them relax and get to know each other. House officials are beginning to organise rehearsals for one of my favourite competitions of the year – House Music (more information below), when all of Years 7 and 12 in particular are required to take part, along with the rest of the school. This is one of our flagship events in school, not to be missed. The theme this year is ‘Colours’ and Year 13 students will organise their Houses into boys and girls choirs, orchestras and jazz bands and there will be an almighty sonorous battle for the trophy. I can’t wait!

I would like to say a huge thank you to those who have sent in donations to our Making £nds Meet Appeal over the summer holidays. I will reply in person to all of them in due course. I would also like to thank the Pate’s Society, our alumni organisation, for their donation of £2000 to fund our Year 7 and Year 12 induction days. Such generosity really helps us during our current very tight squeeze on finances. There will be more about the Appeal in my message next week.
Support Staff Vacancy at Pate’s
Role: Development Assistant, reporting to Development Officer (starting in November)
Overview: To provide administrative support on all aspects of the Development Office’s work in its function to deliver the fundraising and alumni relations objectives of the school. The post-holder will be expected to demonstrate a significant amount of initiative and personal responsibility, as well as meticulous attention to detail and consistency.
Hours: Routinely 9.30-12.30 weekdays, term time, although flexibility in working arrangements will be required. The role will demand evening and weekend work and may require some work during the school holidays. There will be a 6 month probationary period and it is likely that the role will expand.
Salary: NJC Scale 14-17, £16,231 - £17,372 (full time equivalent), equating to £5,732 - £6,135. Additional hours will be paid at the appropriate overtime rate.

Y9 & 10 Pate’s French exchange to Les Balmettes, in Annecy - May 2016 (French students in Cheltenham in March 2016). We are very excited and proud to announce the 1st French exchange for Y9 & 10 French (I)GCSE students to our twin town: an opportunity to take part in a school-run exchange for Pate’s pupils to the beautiful town of Annecy in South East France. The cost will depend on the number of pupils participating but based on 22 pupils participating will be no more than £365. Naturally we will endeavour to keep the cost as low as possible, considering the current economic climate and the fact that this exchange is taking place over a week. We would be grateful if parents would add lunch money to students’ Schoolcomms accounts online as soon as possible, rather than sending in cash, as unfortunately we currently have a technical hitch with the cash payment machine in school. Thank you.
OPRO Mouthguard fitting – Wed 9th September – to order a mouthguard in advance of the fitting date please register with OPRO, as follows:
- 1. Log on to the OPRO website www.opro.com and choose the mouth guard you require from the designs shown.
- 2. Place an order either over the internet, by phone or post
- 3. In all cases please deal directly with OPRO and not the school
- 4. OPRO will visit the school, take an impression and then dispatch the mouth guards to school for students to collect.

Travel-share Opportunities – Worcester and Gloucester / Forest:
Office staff have been sorting through a mountain of lost property from last term which has been gathered from around the school over the summer holidays. All ‘named’ items will be returned to students and notified via email; the remaining lost property will be available to view in the lost property office (off main reception) for week commencing 7th September ONLY, after which time it will be disposed of.
Thank you for all of the generous donations of clothes for this year's Chernobyl Children's Lifeline Link appeal. The children arrived, had a wonderful time and had full suitcases of clothes to take home There was a great choice for the children and the remaining clothes will be kept for next year. Thank you once again, from The Geography Department.
