As promised, some news on our Making £nds Meet Appeal. We launched our appeal in April with a target of raising £140,000 by the end of December 2015. I am delighted to say that we have reached our goal and I would like to express my sincerest thanks to all those who helped us to achieve that. The level of response has been heart-warming to say the least and achieving our goal early gives us security in knowing that funding for this year is ‘safe’ and a head-start on tackling our bigger shortfall for next year. We have not yet received confirmed figures for our funding for 16/17 but at this stage we are predicting a shortfall of £250,000. I am inviting you all to join us in our campaign to increase our income as a fairer option for our children that making savage cuts to their educational provision. Please consider making a donation in support of our Making £nds Meet Appeal. Donations can be made by downloading a donation form (here) or by using Virgin Money Giving (here). I look forward to providing you with updates and there will be further opportunities to hear more from us directly at future events. In the meantime thank you in advance for your support; I am confident that together we can do this but we must start now.

I am delighted to introduce our new Richmond House Sponsor - MD2MD. As the name suggests MD2MD arranges meetings where Managing Directors talk to fellow Managing Directors in confidence about the challenges of leading an enterprise. Through supportive and challenging conversations, and by learning with and from each other, they raise their own game as a leader, which in turn brings greater success for their enterprise. Pate’s is certainly like-minded in the belief that developing great leadership is so important in society and I am delighted that Pate’s is associated with MD2MD and the valuable resource they offer for leaders in enterprise. Pate’s and Richmond in particular, is very grateful to MD2MD for their support.

Calendar Update:
Early finish @ 2pm (teacher training) – Tues 29 September. Buses will leave early.
Open Evening – Tues 6th October: We will be talking to students this week about volunteering to be tour guides for our very busy open evening. School will finish early at 2pm, but students will be welcome to stay on afterschool if they wish. They would need to be in school between 5.15 & 8pm. We would be very grateful for your support in enabling your children to help out; the students really enjoy showing families round and we simply couldn’t do it without them!
Parents’ Association AGM – Wed 7th October @ 7pm in the Art Gallery. All parents are welcome to attend.

Trips - Payment Reminders:
SKI 2016 trip. 2nd payment is now overdue. Please ensure payment is made as soon as possible, ideally by Monday 14th September. Payment details can be found on your ‘School Comms’ account.
Yr10 Geography Trip to North Wales April 2016. Outstanding Deposit payments are due by 18th September 2015. Payment details can be found on your ‘School Comms’ account.

Music Lessons:
Some music lessons are now up and running, but some teachers will not be starting their 30 lessons until later in September due to ABRSM examining commitments. If you have not yet heard from the music teacher then you should do so within the next fortnight.
Please make sure that any instruments and music coming in to school is clearly named. Please also note that instruments will need to be covered under your home insurance - in the unlikely case of any loss or damage in school this is not covered under the school's policy.

Pate’s Sports Photos:
The photos taken professionally by Academy Portraits of all our winter and summer sports teams last year are still available to view and purchase via www.pics4schools.com using the following security codes: Winter sports 11408-69160; Summer sports 11578-99208. The photos look great so please take a look.

House Drama DVDs Message from the student Tech Crew: Over the summer we have edited and produced the House Drama DVDs. These will be available to collect from the front office by the end of the week. If you have yet to pay for your DVD (cost £10), please pay by cheque (payable to ‘Pate’s Grammar School’) or cash to the front office. The office will have a list of those who have and have not paid already. We are still accepting late orders for DVDs and will be able to produce as many as necessary. Please place your completed order form (available here) in the box in Reception.  We hope you enjoy watching your DVDs and reliving the exciting months of House Drama!  With thanks from The Tech Crew.

A message from Patents (parents & staff Drama group): we are a small group of mums & dads (and staff) who meet up on a Wednesday evening to revisit our school drama days - playing games, doing improvisations, reading scripts, going on theatre trips, etc. and we are about to begin deciding on what our first production might be. Patents is (a) very sociable & relaxed (b) unlike anything you have experienced before; and (c) hilarious. If you are even vaguely interested in drama and meeting other parents we would love you to join us – every Wednesday between 7.45 and 9.30pm in the performing arts building. Please email Edward Derbyshire (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.).

Travel Share Opportunity – Gretton.
We have been contacted by a family soon to be living in Gretton who would like to investigate the possibility of setting up shared travel arrangements. Please contact the school office (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) in the first instance if you would like to find out more.

Yours sincerely
