Assembly this morning was led by Mr Derbyshire with his sixth form drama group, alongside the Community Committee, raising awareness about homelessness. Community Committee also launched a Christmas Card competition for Y7-9 in aid of a local homeless charity. Also this morning our Diwali Night dancers promoted their event which is taking place on Saturday 7th November 5-7pm in aid of Making £nds Meet. Already they have raised £500 in ticket sales and I am very grateful to the girls and their families for their hard work and generosity in providing traditional Indian snacks and refreshments on the night. Family tickets cost £20, or £8 (adults), £3 (students) and are available online (here) or over the counter at Reception. It is the first time to my knowledge that we have had a Festival of Lights celebration and it is going to be something really special – a celebration of traditional Indian dance and costume, as well as contemporary dance. My thanks to Thrinethra Gowri Shankar (Y9), Maya Horwood (Y9) and Priya Krishna (Y12) for all the work they have been putting into rehearsals (and for the hours it will take to get into their costumes!). It will also be lovely to see ex-students Nupur and Netra Takwale who are coming back to school for perform for us, as well as professional dancer and storyteller Anusha Subramanyam. Please do support this event and bring the family along for what is sure to be a very special show.
Autumn Concert Thursday 12th November: The Autumn Concert is just around the corner, and with it the first performances of the year by the Music Department ensembles. All ensembles will be playing: both orchestras and jazz bands, all the choirs, flute choir and guitar club. There will also be some solo and chamber performances. Tickets (£6 adults, £4 children) are available in advance from Ticket Source (here), or on the door. Performers should be in school no earlier than 6:40 (unless otherwise instructed).
Musical Instruments in school: A reminder to please make sure that your child’s instrument is clearly named. This helps to avoid instruments getting lost, or mistakenly being taken home by someone else. Please also make sure that their instrument is included on your household insurance policy – lost or broken instruments in school are not covered by the school policy.
Excitement is rising as rehearsals for our show The Sound of Music are in full flow for the performances on 26th, 27th and 28th November. Tickets will go on sale the week commencing the 2nd November. We are offering advertising space in the professionally printed programme which will be an A5 portrait booklet. We anticipate having 400 guests each night. Costs to place an advertisement are:

- £75 - half A5 page and 2 complimentary tickets with reserved seats
- Premium Space
- £300 – whole back page and 4 complimentary tickets with reserved seats

School Council Election results: the majority of students took the opportunity to vote in the recent election and in a number of year groups there were only one or two votes between candidates. Congratulations to the following who have been elected to this year’s school council: Year 7: Ollie Ainsworth-Parker & Kieret Nijjar; Year 8: Matthew Robyns-Landricombe & Olivia Sinha Roy; Year 9: Shenuka Haegoda & Alex Ryder; Year 10: James Nicholls & Ben North; Year 11: Memoona Ahmed & Junaid Hameed; Year 12: Jamie Assemat, Libby Cherry & Felyx Wong; Year 13: Danai Osmond, Charlie Smith & Freya Wilkins.
Congratulations to Arianwen Herbert (10Y), who has been cast in the role of Wendy in the Cheltenham Playhouse Christmas production of Peter Pan. Arianwen will be performing as Wendy on the following dates: 2.30pm matinee performances on December 19th and 22nd and 7.30pm evening performances on December 20th and 23rd. I wish her the best of luck with the show – I am sure there will be plenty of Pate’s families in the audience.
Do enjoy your half term, whatever you are doing.
