Rapids logo white backI am delighted to formally launch the Annual Fund 2014-15, ‘Riding the Rapids’. In the next few days you will be receiving a brochure in the post with full details about his year’s fund and a report featuring the fantastic resources we were able to provide as a result of last year’s fund. It gives me great pleasure to be able to report that even though we are just at our formal launch point, we have been able to make a start on this year’s goals due to the early achievement of all of last year’s targets. We have been working on the hall over the summer, replacing the stage curtains and crest, but in particular providing an upgrade to the hall’s AV facilities, including AV equipped and height-adjustable lecterns. We have also been able to extend the sixth form private study facilities into an adjacent classroom, purchase a new practice piano and refurbish an old piano for the music department. However, we still have much to do and our remaining projects for this year include oscilloscopes for Physics, a ‘real’ periodic table for Chemistry, digital photography resources for Art, football goals for PE, and much more. For further details of the projects we aim to support this year please look out for the posted brochure or visit the website here. I would like express my sincere thanks to all of you who are supported last year’s Fund. To those who are still supporting, thank you again. If you haven’t yet ‘signed up’ to the Annual Fund, please consider doing so, we need you! You can donate online or download a donation form using the buttons below:

Thank you in advance for your support. I look forward to reporting our progress throughout the year.

It has been a pleasure to welcome students at the start of a new school year, particularly our Y7s and Y12s who have now experienced their first few days as Pate’s students. In our first assembly of the year staff and students congratulated each other on the outstanding results achieved over the summer in the GCSEs and A Levels. I look forward to the year ahead with excitement and optimism and have encouraged our students to continue to intellectually challenge us and to ‘break the mould’.

Students have now seen for themselves the initial (ongoing) improvements to the school hall made possible by parents’ donations to the Annual Fund; as well as our fabulous new Reception area, revamped entrances, and 3 Science lab refurbishments (all thanks to our successful bid for a grant earlier this year). The old green gates have now been removed from all entrances and we will be phasing in automated biometric entry systems later this term. From now on students should use their own designated entrances (further along the front of school) and not use the main entrance unless they need the school office.

In the interests of safety I would like to remind parents to refrain from driving onto the school site to drop off or pick up children. Please do park considerately at all times – please never block neighbouring driveways and keep noise levels and disruption to a minimum. We work hard to maintain a positive relationship with the local community and rely on your support to help us do this. Thank you.

Head Master's Summer Message

Congratulations to Richmond on winning House Drama last night with Evita! What stunning performances we have had over the two nights, indeed our guest judges were in awe of what the students had achieved by their own efforts, and how fierce the competition! My thanks to everyone involved; there couldn’t be a better way to end the year. My thanks also to parents for all the rehearsal pick-ups etc.!  Our student Tech Crew are selling House Drama DVDs at a cost of £10 – please click here for an order form which can be emailed in to This email address is being protected from spambots. Reminder that OPRO Mouthguards are coming into school on 11th September to take impressions – please click here for details of how to order / book.

We have come to the end of the busiest year we can remember for changes in education (and therefore for the school) in terms of the changes to policy, curriculum and external examinations; all of which we have had to deal with whilst also staying true to what we believe to be the best for Pate’s students. We wait to see what will happen under the new Secretary of State – surely she can’t have as many ideas as Mr Gove!

I would like to wish all Pate’s families a safe and happy summer break.

Yours sincerely
